記吟偶得
黎華趙
一生修行自肩挑 善惡禍福怨和誰
今生有幸不學法 再求人生恐龍期
前生宿業定需消 三世輪回誰能逃
精勤修正求靜定 生慧開悟未可知
感恩節在常靑公寓吃完午餐。我帶着歐陽黎去Kent老人公寓接黎華趙先生一起與Kitty和她的姐姐,和以往一樣在Kumo一起過感恩節,感謝黎華趙先生帶我們參觀Kent大學,讓我們明白也學到許多新的知識。

今天的黎華趙先生與我們聊了許多他生活中的磨練:黎先生1969在香港保送去台灣政治學院攻讀歷史,才華出衆的黎華趙如果沒有來美國,他的命運又將是如何呢?當年台灣在大陸紅歌星侯德健先生,也常常請他幫助譜曲和演奏,他認爲侯德健連簡譜都不懂的人能出人頭地?當時侯德健寫的一首龍的傳人是寫他的弟弟小龍....黎華趙説:龍是皇帝的象徵,百姓都是像牛一樣的勤奮和努力。

在黎華趙先生的身上,我看到他閃光的地方。他沒有婚姻,沒有好的健康,工作中遇到不平等的待遇,他認爲他的生命已經走到盡頭,50多歲的黎華趙先生,走到他家對面大樹下準備上吊自殺,當他回頭再看一下家門,忽然看到一個紅點,那是一只西紅柿出現了,那一刻,他醒悟了,那是飛來他家門口的種子,他澆過幾次水,西紅柿都珍惜自己的生命,我一個大活人就怎么要死?……人只有向自己低頭,才是最了不起選擇。人沒有經過波折和苦難,永遠也不會知道生命的過程。人最大的利益就是健康活着。

在Kent與黎華趙一樣愛中華文化中國音樂的David Badagnani,,他寫下了對黎華趙的認識與認知。
I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to know and learn from
Wah-Chiu Lai over the years, since his time as co-director of the
Kent State University Chinese Ensemble beginning in 1999. It is
wonderful to have such an excellent senior performer, knowledgeable
in the fields of Chinese music, history, and culture, living right
here in Kent, Ohio. He is a thoughtful and generous man, always
willing to share his knowledge and life experience with others, and
the curator of a formidable home library, which is filled with
hundreds of rare and precious volumes about Chinese music and
culture. Mr. Lai has a broad mind and numerous interests (which
include gardening and qigong), but above all he is driven by a
lifelong passion to research and properly document China's rich
musical heritage, including traditions that have nearly been lost or
forgotten. May Lai laoshi have many fruitful years ahead!

Born in Heshan, Guangdong province, southern China, and raised in
Hong Kong, Wah-Chiu Lai was from 1977 to 1979 a member of the
Broadcasting Corporation of China Chinese Classical Music Orchestra
in Taipei, Taiwan, playing erhu, gaohu, and sanxian. From 1979
through 1987 he played erhu, ruan, and sanxian in the Taipei
Municipal Chinese Orchestra, where he was the leader of the plucked
instruments section, also working for the orchestra's Research and
Promotion Section. From 1988 through 1990 he worked as a broadcaster
and reporter in the news department of Sino Radio of North America
in New York. Since 1992, Mr. Lai has been researching the music of
the Chaozhou ethnic group of southern China, investigating Chaozhou
communities throughout North America and Southeast Asia. Mr. Lai
holds a master's degree in history from Taipei National Normal
University and is currently completing his Ph.D. in ethnomusicology
at Kent State University, where he also served as the co-director of
the Kent State University Chinese Ensemble from 1999 to 2005.
