ELLIS YAN  一位用智慧照亮世界的中國人

    認識ELLIS YAN是因爲和鎮江的關係。早在二年前,無論是鎮江的書記還是市長,只要到美國來考察,他們總要到已經在鎮江當地很有名氣的企業“強凌電子公司”在美國的總部(設在AURORA,OH的TCP)參觀一下。他們爲鎮江有這樣一個企業自豪。而我認識鎮江是2003年中國鎮江靑少年來美國參加奧運會,華報和鎮江建立了友誼。所以説是鎮江讓我和ELLIS YAN相識。

     當我認識ELLIS YAN的時候,他在美國幾乎沒有幾個來自中國的朋友,也許是上海同鄉,我對他十多年來的工作成績表示欽佩,從十個人開始創業發展到今天在中國擁有一萬五千名員工和美國總部有二百五十名管理和技術人員,我從心里很想知道他獲得成就的背後走過的艱辛旅程,而他簡單地回答:朝前走,不放棄,不回頭再加自信和機遇。
    ELLIS YAN曾經説過:“人生短暫,不容蹉跎。一個人在創業過程中,首先要會做夢,那個夢做得越大越好,只要你認定自己行,朝前走,步入正確的軌道並踏踏實實做事,成功是早晩的事,成功不是刻意追求的結果,而是自我認同與外界評價相統一,成功也就是走過所有通向失敗的路,最後只剩下一條路,不放棄不回頭就行了”。
    ELLIS YAN出生上海,上了五年小學,生不逢時遇上了文化大革命,他和所有血氣方剛的靑年一樣開始全國大串聯,在他還不滿十六歲時就去了江西揷隊,剛到江西的第一和第二年他還連續被評爲全連揷秧第一名。揷秧不能揷一輩子,他要學一門手藝讓他在江西更有發展前途,勤奮聰明的他在上海的地段醫院實習了六個月,就開始江西六年行醫,那時人們稱呼他赤腳醫生,有人頭上長瘤,他還幫人動過手術。按照他姐姐説的:當時我不放心去江西看望弟弟,看到許多農民把鷄蛋和好菜送給我吃,我就知道我的弟弟在江西得到大家的愛戴。從ELLIS YAN實習六個月開始當上赤腳醫生,這也注定他1979年9月19日到美國開始了他洋揷隊的新命運。他的第一站就是克里夫蘭,一獃再也沒有離開這里。
     ELLIS YAN剛到美國就象一張白紙,一切從零開始,學英文,讀二年大專,後來再深造CSU他學過財務,後來因爲電腦的流行改修了電腦,畢業時的第一份工作是電腦技術員。機遇對每個人都是公平的,能不能抓住機遇取決于自身。ELLIS YAN喜歡挑戰,喜歡創新,在他的血液里就帶着冒險的因子。所以很多事情在選擇的過程中,或者説在做的過程中,對他是一種自然的行爲,而不是説有意去怎么做,因爲他本身就具備着這樣一種慾望和激情。他舉例説他和他的哥哥(“強凌電子公司”就是用他和他哥哥名字命名的),當他們每一次做一個重大決定的時候,像他們購買中國土地,鎮江二千畝,揚州一千畝和其他地方時,在一旁的哥哥總是擔心地問一個問題:“你能賣掉那么多燈嗎”? ELLIS YAN每一次給他哥哥同樣的答案:能。其實ELLIS YAN從心底里都不知道能不能,ELLIS YAN憑藉他自身具備的異常的冷靜、精明和富有超意識的遠見,還有他獨有的永不停息的進取心,一步一個腳印創建起他往日自己擁有專利的“節能燈”的龐大企業。
     早在八十年代,ELLIS YAN的父母親在一次偶然度假時發現松江有一個嶄新的空厰房,父母親對産品加工業有一定基礎,當時的俄亥俄州有不少做燈的工厰,這和美國俄亥俄州著名歷史發明天才之一的愛迪生(Thomas　Edison,1847.2-1931.)分不開。機遇永遠是爲有準備的人敞開着。1989年,ELLIS YAN就開始了他的第一個在中國的合資企業,當時他和國家合資,他剛開始做的就是中國加工生産炭絲電燈,起步的ELLIS YAN走得並不順利,上馬沒有多久,就有一次十九個貨櫃退貨,而根本不是他們的錯,沒有時間去辯理,改,顧客就是上帝,ELLIS YAN説:那時好像二十四小時沒有休息。
    ELLIS YAN今天他在中國擁有一萬五千名員工和美國總部有二百五十名管理技術人員,而他明年的目標是美國要增加40名管理和技術人員,他在揚州一千畝地建新厰區,美國新公司的搬遷(過去是租的,現在是在自己的地上造的辦公大樓)他每一個月至少要回中國二次到三次,(美國空中小姐一個月的工作時間只有三次旅程)還有全美國全世界,他曾經説過,他沒有二天睡同一個床,他到處奔忙,忙他的夢想,他要改變100年前愛迪生照明歷史。在1996年,由TCP第一個向世界推出‘SPRINGLAMP INSSIDE” ,他創新改革照明歷史,這朝着他做的大夢,一步一步夢想成眞。全世界使用TCP的出産的産品,美國佔70%.。從2001年到2006年,僅僅5年時間,TCP節能燈的産量和銷售翻了一番,産値達到154 MILLION ,每天生産出900,000不同規格和型號的節能燈。
     ELLIS YAN 在他創業的過程中,彙聚了多元化的成功要素,他旣有不記後果的冒險精神,又有傳統的東方智慧,他善於抓住機遇,同時他把員工看得重於一切,甚至,爲了提高員工士氣,每月都要光顧自己工厰,在節假日他還要親自陪同員工吃飯,送奬金,他的眞情換人心是他的管理理念:産品質量,對人公正,團隊和諧,社會意識,感恩心情。從平常點滴出發,堅持不懈與員工溝通,體貼員工,提供員工健身和食堂,給員工一個愉快的工作環境,強化公司上下人員的凝聚力,公司工厰辦得像一個大家庭,就像他説的:我現在肩膀上最沉的就是責任:因爲那么多人要養他們的家。ELLIS YAN深知企業集體振興的原因之一就是要有優秀員工。培養優秀的員工就是心與心的交流。本月中秋節,他從上海到鎮江請員工吃團圓飯,説是中秋節不用上班了,他也讓他的司機回家過中秋,而他在回賓館的路上買了二只粽子,他的員工和所有他關心的人都去過中秋節了,他在賓館看月亮和吃粽子過他的中秋節。
    ELLIS YAN與衆不同的思維方式爲他鋪了一條光明之路,又因爲他融合了東西方雙重智慧,讓他能夠朝着他引領的全球節能照明事業的方向努力,在二十一世紀進入一個嶄新的“節能時代”,他説把熱水燒開也需要時間,在全球競爭激烈,生産商要有自己站的住腳的産品,這是根本。另外比起經濟平穩發展的歐美國家,中國更充滿機會,ELLIS YAN他和所有世界名人一樣,他鎮江的賓館在建設之中,他還要創建了學校和醫院。他永遠都在做他的夢和完成他的夢。

TCP, Inc. Opens its Doors to a New 154,000-Square Foot Global Headquarter

     Aurora, OH – (September 19, 2007) – To better accommodate its customers and continue to grow its line of energy efficient lighting products, TCP, Inc. celebrates the opening of its new, larger global headquarters with a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony signifying the company’s commitment to expanding the business in Northeast Ohio. The 154,000-square-foot facility houses a two-story office space, warehouse, distribution center, product testing labs and customer service call center. TCP employs more than 200 people at its Aurora headquarters and expects to add as many as 40 jobs over the next year.
“Every day we are developing innovative lighting technologies that are transforming the way American’s light their homes, offices and schools,” said Ellis Yan, President & CEO, TCP, Inc. “Our new corporate headquarters will allow us to bring more high value jobs to the region and continue to deliver new energy efficient products to market that will help consumers around the world save money and reduce carbon emissions linked to global warming.”
     Construction of TCP's new facility began in June of 2006, led by Curtis Layer Design/Build, an Aurora-based construction firm. The building features a warehouse equipped with Radio Frequency Technology, a Certified UL and NVLAP Testing lab, and employee amenities, including a contemporary fitness center and full-service cafeteria.
     In addition to its every day functions, TCP’s new facility serves as a show room featuring a mixture of lighting fixtures and color temperatures throughout the building, giving visitors the opportunity to view the company’s variety of products firsthand. Also, daylighting units in the ceiling tile of the office areas bring in natural light, reducing the company’s energy usage and contributing to a more sustainable facility. In the future, the new building could be expanded to encompass more than 360,000 square feet of combined office and distribution space and house as many as 350 employees.
Though only a fraction the size of its competitors, TCP manufactures more than 900,000 energy efficient compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) every day and is responsible for 70% of the CFLs on the U.S. market sold under a variety of name brand, private label and other lighting manufacturers (OLMs), including n:vision at The Home Depot. As the energy efficient lighting innovator, TCP was the first company to introduce the use of the “SpringLamp Inside” rather than a straight tube in a compact fluorescent lamp, dramatically providing more lumens and making the twisted tube design the standard for energy efficient lighting.
