School. The location is: The address is 2400 Roxboro Road, Cleveland
Hts, OH 44106. The instructor must commit for the full year.
Position:
This position is for an after school Chinese Language and Cultural
Instructor for Roxboro Middle School’s Program, Connect Partners.
One day each week (Mondays – Starting October 12, 2015 – May 9,
2016), students will be involved in global learning with an
instructor from ASIA, including Chinese culture and language
instruction and potential cross-cultural sharing and learning. The
Chinese Instructor will serve to expand CONNECT students’
understanding and knowledge about Chinese culture and language. In
addition to extending cultural knowledge, the Chinese instructor
will aid in providing support for basic language instruction and
conversational practice.
Background:
Roxboro Middle School has kindly requested that we contract a new
Chinese Instructor. We are looking to contract an instructor from
mainland China. The instructor will teach the Mandarin language and
culture for middle school children.
This is an afterschool program for children who need additional help
with their academic work. The program itself is called Connect
Partners. The instructor must be able to teach Mandarin in a fun,
engaging way. The objective is cultural enrichment for children who
do not know Chinese and are learning the language and its culture
for the first time. They must be able to teach the language without
provoking intimidation. The classroom is composed of approximately
25 children; thus, keeping the middle school students engaged is
essential.
We must have an instructor hired by October 12, 2015 or asap. Once
an instructor is identified, the instructor will have a meeting with
me and the Roxboro staff.
The instructor should have a teaching background. This position is
critical, as they have to be able to teach Chinese is a fun way.
Middle School children are difficult to control, and the instructor
must be able to handle the classroom.
Job Description:
· Prepare periodic instructional plan for middle school students
enrolled in Roxboro’s after school program, Connect Partners.
· Coordinate class activities and contents as a supplement to the
students who take Chinese courses with the school Chinese teacher
during normal school hours.
· Help students improve their current Chinese language level.
· Prepare beginner level lesson plans for middle school students who
are taking Chinese lessons for the first time.
· Prepare assessments and recommendations for each student at the
end of the school year.
· Communicate and work with the after school instructor coordinator
and assistants for classroom operation.
· Prepare teaching material based on 25% cultural and 75% language.
· Prepare fun and learning language activities for the class.
· Instruct students with cultural activities related to customs,
holidays, food, and Tai Chi, etc.
· Organize field trips to Asia town and other related Asian
locations to allow students to experience the Asia culture.
· Professional attire required.
Example of lesson plans:
1) Chopsticks competition: introduction: how to use chopsticks;
compete in groups of 4-5 students in picking marshmallows and pasta
between tables.
2) Hot Potato: once student drums while other students pass around
fuzzy dices need to tell the addition result in Chinese when
drumming stops. 3) Chinese whispers/ telephone game: 4-5 students in
a row, the first student pick up a question card or numbers or
simply math questions in Chinese. They need to whisper down the
number and the last one in line should tell the audience the correct
number in Chinese.

Every Monday 4:45PM-5:45PM. October 12, 2015 – May 9, 2016

$80.00 dollars per class plus mileage
