參加女兒的畢業典禮

克利夫蘭Hathaway Brown女子學校成立于1876年,多年來長勝不衰,有口皆碑,學校敎書育人,培養了無數人才,贏得了社會廣泛贊譽。走進學校大門一條醒目的標語: We learn not for school but for life.該校爲學生提供各種學習機會,讓他們睜眼看世界,學校經常請各個行業的專家學者來爲學生們開設講座。在Hathaway Brown校園里,老師啓蒙學生發揮最大的潜能,而學生們在這里學到最多的就是自信,能力和智慧。
     6月8日我參加了Hathaway Brown2012年高中畢業典禮,典禮在學校大操場上舉辦,緑色的草地像地毯,身穿白色裙子手捧紅色鮮花的76位HB女子畢業生在音樂聲中走上舞臺,上千名老師和學生家人坐在觀台上,大家仿彿看到的是大自然的鳥兒聲中的美麗的天使,在音樂響起的瞬間,大家觀摩到了這所學校畢業典禮的經典。
      校長Bill Christ開場祝賀學生今天畢業,學生將走進大學大門,生活有一個新的起點。接着Bill Christ請今天在座的嘉賓--不同年代畢業于HB的女生站立起來,10個20個……當我看到滿頭銀髮的老奶奶站立的時候,心里有一種冲動,因爲我記得我女兒曾經對我説過:她將來如果有女兒也會送她女兒來讀HB,過去我一直認爲女兒在跟我開玩笑,現在想她説的是心理話。這所學校百年經久不衰,她的奧秘在于你來這里讀書,老師不僅敎給你知識,更是敎育你怎樣做人,做生活的主人。

我的女兒陸穎也寫了她拿到畢業證書那一刻的心情：
I remember my first experience of talking about graduation. It was my first grade teacher on my first day of school. He said, “You are going to have twelve more years of this!” At the time I never even thought of getting this far in life. Yet this past weekend, I walked the halls of my High school for the very last time with the best 76 girls I could ever ask for. The statement, “You don’t know how good it is until its gone” is so true. It’s so surreal to me that I will not see the girls, the teachers and faculty every day anymore. But from the 5 years HB has engrained into my brain is HB will always be my 2nd home. I am now an HB alum and I am truly honored to say that.
