Massoud
Dear Countrymen and Friends"
May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Holiday
Season. I want to share with you my thoughts that may add value to
your lives
The Cleveland Art Museum's Performing Arts 2011 invited Yang Wei,
the world renowned Chinese musician and his Ensemble performed on
12/7 and Friday 12/8. Yang Wei-played pipa, yangqin, ruan; Wu Wei-
played sheng; Wang Hong played erhu, guanzi and maguhu; Mao Yimin
played dizi. It was a most exciting experience for me. I cannot
describe how beautiful it was as well as the enthusiasm and applause
received from the audience. Sadly enough, a handful of Chinese
attended this remarkable performance and only a handful of Chinese
parents brought their children to hear this traditional Chinese
music performance by highly acclaimed musicians.
According to the Director, Massoud Saidpour, Performing Arts: Music
and Film of Cleveland Art,Museum Yang Wei and the Ensemble also
performed in Akron, where over 200 students affiliated with the
Confucius Institute attended the concert. They gave standing
ovations and the biggest cheer in appreciation of the Chinese Music
performance.
I often wonder why so few Chinese attend the performance at
Cleveland Art Museum or at Cleveland Orchestra. I know Chinese
parents invest a lot of money to provide private lessons for their
children to learn piano or violin but they do not see the value to
bring their children to listen the famous musicians that perform. I
encourage all of you to reconsider the value added to your children
and yourselves to come to such performances.
When the Cleveland Orchestra played in Japan or in Europe it was
always a sold out event at very high priced tickets. We are so
fortunate to have the Cleveland Orchestra right here with very
affordable ticket prices.
I am looking forward to see your participation in future performance
at the Cleveland Art Museum and Cleveland Orchestra, Have you seen
the Chinese Exhibition :"The Art in Age of Revolution: Fu Baoshi
(1904-1965)" at the Cleveland Art Museum? Soon the exhibition will
end and move on to the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
Please do not miss this opportunity.
I wish you all a happy Holiday.
