Marti在她最痛苦的时候,也拿起了圣经,就是因为她心中有上帝,上帝弥补了她的损伤和缺憾,她知道人只有原谅别人自己才能成快乐的人,因为人生没有绝对的圆满。今天她也送了我一本中文圣经。
伊利华报曾经在一月三十日头版刊登过一篇文章,题为“生命处方,生活真谛”。我给华报读者介绍了两位曾经在心灵和身体上都有过死而复生经历的女士。Virginia
Marti Veith女士(82岁),创办了Virginia Marti College,另外一位Young Moore小姐 (39岁)
,来自韩国,是Virginia Marti College的学生。
此后第二个月我便带了克里夫兰ITM总裁Jack Craciun和企城唐人街发展有限公司总裁黄绍佳先生,一起去走访Virginia
Marti college。Jack 和Virginia
Marti的前辈都是18-19世纪从罗马尼亚移民到克里夫兰的成功创业人士。而黄绍佳先生说中国广州中山有学生要来美国求学,希望能和Virginia
Marti college建立相互友好关系。也许就是那天Virginia Marti 有了新的愿望:她要让Virginia Marti
College从全球去招收学生,培养更多的服装行业的人才,服装市场是一个每年2500亿的产业。
我在六月十一日又去了Virginia Marti College,参加韩国学生Young
Moore的毕业设计典礼。Young Moore
小姐,1993从韩国来美国求学,后又去意大利留学三年,学习服装设计。人生无常,正当她事业蒸蒸日上时,一场车祸从天而降, Young
Moore死里逃生后成为植物人长达两年半时间,车祸后的Young
Moore失去了记忆,她从躺在病床上到又一次站起来走路,前后动了上百次手术,只她的脚就动了27次手术。全身70%皮肤做了移植,幸运的Young
Moore 是上帝给她一个完整的身体,而医生断言即使醒过来也只有两岁小孩的智力。而Young Moore在Virginia Marti
College毕业设计典礼上得到了六位评委的赞誉。Young Moore说这就是上帝为什么给她再一次生命。

早在1921年Virginia Marti Veith的父亲从从罗马尼亚移民来美国克里夫兰,Virginia
Marti Veith女士是家中第二代移民,父亲在克里夫兰是一位很成功的制作皮毛衣服的商人,在Virginia Marti Veith的记忆里,从小他父亲教导她和兄弟姐妹就像电影“音乐之声”里的父亲,每天早上五个孩子排成一排,父亲看他们的衣服整齐,皮鞋亮度和指甲干净不干净。Virginia
Marti Veith的父亲在罗马尼亚6岁就开始学习手工缝纫,21岁的父亲到美国就已经有很好的手艺,父亲在教堂认识了母亲,自父亲1921年到美国克里夫兰直到1978年他去见他的上帝。

Marti在富裕的家庭中成长,她的哥哥姐姐在经济上都得到父母的支持,但事业并不理想。父亲认识到要让孩子成才,只有靠他们自己双手努力,经济上自力更生,才能改变他们自己的命运。当Virginia18岁时,她父亲在经济上不预支持。从小就喜欢做设计的Virginia去了纽约,白天打工,晚上读书。她疲惫不堪忙于支付房租,她说她曾经恨她父亲为什么这么不帮助她。她20岁时,完全靠自己的能力,去了法国5年,学习服装设计,她辛苦耕耘,学业有成后回美国开了一个做婚纱的小店,生意兴隆。

Marti出生时美国经济大萧条时期,她在1956年结婚,生了八个孩子,6个男孩2个女儿,结婚20年后的一天,在他家门口有人送来了一辆崭新的凯迪来克,她十分好奇,因为她自己才购买了一辆凯迪来克,她给他先生打电话,那一瞬间先生的另外一头电话没有了声音,她才知道他先生在外面还有一个家,这让她精神崩溃,但面对事业和家庭,她让先生去选择,要哪一个家,先生头也没有回就走了。

Marti曾经为家庭事业精神崩溃过,但她没有在挫折降临时显得那样的不堪一击,Virginia在挫折面前没有将痛苦放大,她没有怨天尤人,她是脚踏实地勇敢面对现实,她的态度感动了上帝。人人都有一个梦,这个梦或大或小,但却都那样的神圣和虔诚。在1966年4月,Virginia
Marti在市政府给她5万美金基金和她去银行贷款25万,她就用了这30万,创办了Virginia Marti College of
Art and
Design学校,学习做婚纱,当时她只有5个学生,只有晚上课程。过了5年,在1970年,学校开始有全天课程。在她先生离开她后,她的学校一点一点壮大,在1985年她的学校搬家三次,一次比一次规模大,学生也越来越多。学校教程全部是欧洲教学模式,虽然是二年制,但她培养学生的目标是毕业后要有事业和前途。
Virginia有八个孩子,有一所Virginia Marti College of Art and
Design学校。在她过了21年的单身生活后,她又找到了一个幸福的家园,她在教堂里找到了他现在的先生Herb,她俩恋爱六年,与1993年结婚,这位Herb带给她快乐和喜悦,Virginia
Marti要将她的快乐和喜悦分享给大家,她和她的先生就在他俩结婚的同年创办了非洲孤儿基金会 (Kenya – East
Africa)Virginia Marti毫无隐瞒地说,她喜欢赚钱,同时她也喜欢给予,因为一个人的快乐是来自于是否能给别人带来快乐。
今年她82岁,8个儿女,27个孙子孙女和外孙外孙女,5个从孙子孙女。她没有将她的财产留给自己家人,她在非洲有近50人叫她妈妈,下个月她将动身去他的非洲学校一个月,去服务和帮助那些没有父母的孩子。

Virginia Marti-Veith
Virginia Marti-Veith has always been a visionary woman with a
passion for quality fabrics and fashion. After studying Haute
Couture design in Paris, with its emphasis on custom fitting and
details, Mrs. Veith returned to Cleveland, eager to train qualified
fashion design professionals. She envisioned a place for students to
learn, grow and improve their own lives, as well as the communities
they lived in. In 1966, she founded the Virginia Marti College of
Art and Design.
One of Cleveland’s first female entrepreneurs, Mrs. Veith stayed
focused on her passion throughout her life: providing students with
personalized training in quality design, while raising her own
close–knit family.
She knows from personal experience just what it takes to succeed as
an artist entrepreneur. Success in any design field combines hard
work, technical skill and personal attention, the basis of haute
couture design and service.
Interest in the college flourished as students from all over the
country began to inquire about its unique programming. Virginia
Marti College of Art and Design now offers accredited degrees in
Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, Graphic Design, Interior
Design and Digital Media.
It started as the vision of a passionate young dreamer. Today,

VMCAD's Interior Design program will train you to visualize and
develop a complete understanding of three-dimensional space, as well

You will study a variety of residential and commercial projects that
become more complex as you advance through the program.
You will learn how to solve problems of space, both visually and
practically, while observing its safety, usability, comfort and
aesthetics.
VMCAD's Fashion Design program is for serious-minded students
interested in creating original styles from concept to completion.
You will learn Haute Couture sewing methods, along with fitting
skills, pattern making and fashion illustration.
At the end of each quarter, you will construct an original garment,
which is critiqued by a panel of fashion design professionals.
For your final project you will create an original five-piece
collection, displayed by fit models & also evaluated by critics.
Fashion Merchandising integrates consumers, trade and commerce with
the politics and economics of a region or country.
At VMCAD, Fashion Merchandising students keep an eye toward design
while also learning to critically analyze situations, problem solve
and innovate.
They learn the business skills and professional responsibility
needed to succeed in the Fashion Merchandising industry!
We prepare students to be successful in their chosen professions by
empowering them with business and design knowledge, along with
hands-on experience.
