The first ever Asian American Film Festival (called Silk Screen) is planned for Pittsburgh in May 12-20, 2006.

This annual event will add new color to the Cultural landscape of
Pittsburgh. It will bring together the various Asian and mainstream
communities.

Celebrating diversity and multi-cultural appreciation through film, the festival will be a week-long event that will showcase over 20 films,filmmakers and actors with origins in Japan, China, India, etc.
A variety of special events are being planned including a gala Opening
Night reception, workshops and panel discussions with prominent Asian
filmmakers, actors and producers.
About 50 local organizations are involved with this Festival including
Pittsburgh Filmmakers, the Universities, the Pgh Cultural trust, Pgh
Asian American Young Professionals Association, World Affairs Council, WDUQ, WQED TV, Post Gazette and several others.
Over the years we plan to expand the event to Asia Week and celebrate
the  other Arts also (Music, dance, visual arts, etc.).

Among the films being considered are the following Chinese films:
Eve and the fire horse LETTER FROM AN UNKNOWN WOMAN Red Doors
The Black and White Milk Cow

Silk Screen is the brainchild of local film director Harish Saluja. His film
The Journey (www.newray.com) was on TV the last few months. Harish is
also apainter who has shown his work worldwide and also hte host of Music From India radio show on WDUQ (90.5FM) for over 30 years.

Silk Screen Advisory Board members include James Schamus (Focus
Features,Producer, Brokeback Mountain), Harold Gronenthal (Sr. VP of
Acquisitions,Independent Film Channel), Aruna Vasudev (Director, Osian's-Cinefan), GregChew (Film Commissioner, San Francisco), and acclaimed actress Nandita Das
(movies: Fire; Earth; Juror: Cannes Film Festival 2005).
