GRAMMY WINNER YING QUARTET COOKS UP A ‘MUSICAL DIM SUM’

The Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society (PCMS) presents the dynamic Ying Quartet in its signature “Musical Dim Sum” program, Sunday, March 26, 2006, 7 PM, CAPA Theater in the Cultural District, Pittsburgh. In exploration of its cultural heritage, the Quartet will perform short works, or “samplings” by contemporary Chinese-American composers including three movements from Tan Dun's Eight Colors Quartet, Zhou Long's “Song of the Ch'in,” Chen Yi's “Shuo” and “The Talking Fiddle.” The performance concludes with one of French composer Claude Debussy's early compositions, the soulful Quartet in G minor, Op. 10. A Meet-the-Artists reception with Dim Sum specials in the CAPA Theater Lobby will follow the concert.
This performance is part of PCMS’s 13th Annual Presenter-Community Residency that will feature the Ying Quartet in a free family concert entitled “Two-Note Wonders”, Sunday, March 26, 3PM at Bellefield Auditorium, University of Pittsburgh, Oakland; visits to the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra and the CAPA High School that include mini-concerts, Q&A and coachings for youth ensembles; a workshop for composition students at the University of Pittsburgh and a live interview & performance at WQED’s downtown studio.
Tickets are $22 for adults and $10 for students with valid ID (includes the post-concert Dim Sum reception). For tickets or more information, visit www.pittsburghchambermusic.org or call 412.624.4129.
The Ying Quartet Residency is underwritten in part by the Asian Studies Center of the University Center for International Studies, University of Pittsburgh. Additional support is provided by grants from Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, PA Presenters, Allegheny Regional Asset District, H. J. Heinz Company Foundation, Laurel Foundation, and The A.W. Mellon Educational and Charitable Trust Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation.
