We 12 family members are sending you our best wishes for happiness
in 2020 with a brief update.
Teh-Kuang Chang celebrates the age of 95 this year. He has been a
professor for over 53 years in the Department of Political Science
at Ball State University. The University President has presented me
the Award of Excellent Teaching. The International Political Science
Association awarded me for Outstanding Leadership through over 40
years of Asian and Pacific Studies with my contributions for the
International Political Science Association and founding research on
Asian and Pacific Studies. In July, 2020, I chair panels in its 26th
World Congress in Lisbon, Portugal which set up “Teh-Kuang Chang
Outstanding Scholar Award on Asian and Pacific Studies” in
recognition of my contribution to IPSA. The Routledge Handbook of
Asia in World Politics, edited by Angelin Chang and Teh-Kuang Chang
has published in Oxford, United Kingdom. I am busy writing my book
on the Rainbow of Life.
My wife, Grace is busy as usual for her CPA firm of over 30 years.
She was elected the Model Mother of the Chinese Associations by
Chinese Women Associations in New York and San Francisco. Also, she
was elected as “Woman of the Year” by the American Institute of
Excellence.
Grace and I celebrated our Diamond 60th Wedding Anniversary on
October 11, 2019. We have one son and three daughters and one
grandson and three granddaughters:
Our son Angelo and daughter-in-law Darlene Liao are U.S career
diplomats assigned to work in the U.S Mission in Geneva,
Switzerland. Their daughter Sabrina and son Dylan attend the
international school and learn French. Last year, Sabrina earned a
school award called the Cougar Award. It was for most
responsibility, dependability, and integrity. Now both Dylan and
Sabrina play for soccer teams and Club FC.Versoix. Angelo, Darlene,
Sabrina, and Dylan all enjoy European life.
Our daughter, Angelin is a professor of music and law at Cleveland
State University as she holds doctoral degrees in both areas. As a
GRAMMY winner, she receives invitations to perform piano throughout
the world. She was re-elected as Chair of the Asian and Pacific
Studies Research Committee of IPSA, where she convenes 40 panels in
the 26th World Congress in July 2020. In 2019, she performed as the
season opener for the Muncie Symphony Orchestra at Emens Auditorium,
where she made her piano concerto debut a child. She performed piano
in concert for Notorious RBG in Song with children of Supreme Court
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and for MLK Day in Cleveland. She taught
at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and performs at
Carnegie Hall in New York this year. Selected for the prestigious
Leadership in Music (Nashville), Angelin has spoken at CSU Levin
College of Urban Affairs on the Asian American Experience and for
the Cleveland City Club and Council on World Affairs on Music as
Diplomacy, and is invited to be Keynote Speaker at Johns Hopkins
University.
Our 2nd daughter Angelina is working as an administrator at
Providence Hospitals in Los Angeles. Our son-in-law Ron Escopete is
working as Vice President of an international transportation
company. Their 2 daughters, Veronica and Verity are in elementary
school. Veronica won the speech contest to deliver the welcome
address in the New Year celebration of the city and is an
award-winning artist, whose work is commissioned to be displayed
throughout Manhattan Beach utility boxes to beautify the city.
Verity is a championship medalist in hockey. They traveled to the
Philippines this year.
Our youngest daughter Angel returned to New York as a TED resident
and gave a TED talk on her work developing textiles with indigenous
tribes in Guizhou Province, China. Her sustainable clothing line was
featured as part of the Smithsonian Museum’s Asian Pacific American
Center exhibit ‘Ae Kai: A Culture lab on convergence. She launched
her artisan textile line to great success in Paris and New York.
While we send you our best wishes for the happiness of 2020 and the
year of the Mouse, we will be most happy to hear from you!
