A Window to A Variety of Chinese Cultures
Dear Erie Chinese Journal,
On March 2, 2013, an exciting new dance school in Pittsburgh, Yanlai
Dance Academy (formerly Oriental Star Dance School) will hold its
eighth public Chinese dance performance. It is a great opportunity
for Pittsburghers to appreciate a variety of Chinese cultures
through Chinese dance.
Yanlai Dance Academy was established in August of 2004 in Squirrel
Hill and relocated to North hill Pittsburgh in August of 2010. Since
its establishment, over the 180 students have been trained by the
world class Chinese dance instructor, Ms.YanlaiWu. She graduated
from internationally recognized Beijing Dance Academy in China, has
won many awards in international and national dance competitions and
has years of experience in teaching Chinese dances and ballet, Jazz,
Tap, Modern to young children, teenagers and adults. Her students
range in age from 3 years old to their 60’s.
Yanlai Dance Academy’s mission is to cultivate first class dancers,
to teach appreciation of Chinese cultures through Chinese dances,
and to help students form a great outlook towards health, fitness
and beauty. Our students will also learn how to express themselves
elegantly and strongly through beautiful dances on stage. Since its
establishment, Yanlai Dance Academy has successfully reached out to
all communities in Greater Pittsburgh via its beautifully
choreographed Chinese dances. In the past year, Yanlai Dance Academy
has had about 50 performances, and each show was fully packed with
enthusiastic audiences.
To date the most amazing achievement Yanlai Dance Academy has made
is that the school not only has touched various communities in
Allegheny, Indiana, Armstrong, Beaver and Butler counties, but also
touched various Chinese communities in this area, where at least
nine Chinese organizations and over twenty thousand Chinese
Americans call home, no matter where they came from: Taiwan,
Mainland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam, etc. or no matter what
religion they believe in or what dialects they speak.
Yanlai Dance Academy will continue to work hard to accomplish its
mission, which is to cultivate top quality dancers, encourage and
support students to work hard to keep their bodies fit, beautiful
and strong. Also, learning Chinese dance we are contributing to our
communities and society.
