Qing Yang’s career has spanned more than two decades
and the continents of Asia, Europe, and North America. Born in
Manchuria during the Cultural Revolution, she moved to Beijing in 1980
for intensive study at the China Conservatory. In 1989, as a college
junior at the conservatory, Qing was one of the first participants in
the Tiananmen Square Democracy Movement. Upon graduation, Qing was
invited to join the China Central Opera Orchestra, an ensemble with
whom she toured Asia, her performances broadcast frequently on China
Central Television.
After moving to New York City in 1995, Qing performed with
numerous contemporary music ensembles and Juilliard School faculty,
appearing at such venues as Columbia University, the 92nd Street Y,
and the United Nations. At this time, she also appeared on Danish
television in collaboration with the Scandinavian Jazz Quartet. Qing
subsequently has been engaged by numerous summer festivals, including
Aspen, contemporary music festivals in Cincinnati, and the Opera
Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca (Italy). Her performances have
also been featured regularly on WCLV-FM in Cleveland.
Qing holds the Bachelor’s in Music degree from the
China Conservatory in Beijing, a Master’s of Music from Ohio
University, and is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of
Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She has studied cello with
Lee Fiser, Yehuda Hanani, Richard Aaron, and David Geber, and received
chamber music coaching by Jean Barr and the Tokyo String Quartet.
Reflecting her ongoing interest in the development of Western music in
China, Qing has been invited to perform and give master classes in
Beijing, Shenyang, and Shanghai the coming year. Qing has taught at
Hiram College since 2004, and recently joined the string faculty at
West Reserve Academy and Westminster College.
Welcome everyone to joins Qing Yany ‘s faculty solo
cello recital.
The recital will be held at Hiram College Frohring
Recital Hall on March 16, at 7:30 pm. The concert is free of charge.
The program includes: Beethoven cello sonata in G Minor Op. 5 no. 2
and his cello sonata in A Major Op. 69. The Chinese pieces include
新春樂Happy Spring Holidays by 茅沅Mao Yuan, 薩麗哈Saliha by 祝恆謙Zhu Heng-qian.
The concert piece will be Elely by Faure.
