The history of world civilization shows China
had made tremendous contributions to the development of human
society for a few thousand years.More recently since 1979, China has
undergone a social and economic reform that helps create one of the
largest economic transformations in the human history. With the
largest population in the world and the unprecedented economic
achievements, China today is considered an emerging power in the
world. Such events as China's becoming a member of the World Trade
Organization (WTO) in 2001, hosting the Summer Olympic Games in
2008, and engaging in the worst global economic crisis today
demonstrate once again that China needs to join the family of the
world, and the world needs to understand China.
China Week is a collaborative effort among faculty, staff and
students to enhance understanding of the Chinese language and
culture. This week-long series of events provides a wide variety of
educational and cultural opportunities for our campus and our
greater community.
世界文明史表明中國在過去數千年歷史上爲人類社會的發展做出了巨大的貢獻,中國1979年以來在社會和經濟方面的改革又一次促成了人類歷史上最大的一次變革。擁有世界最大人口的中國近年來在經濟方面取得的史無前例的進步使她成爲一股不容世人忽視的新生力量。中國2001年加入世界貿易組織、2008年成功舉辦奧運會及其在當前全球性經濟危機中的重要作用再次向世人表明:中國需要融入世界,世界也需要瞭解中國。本次中國周以推動中美在敎育和文化方面的交流與合作爲終極目標,期待在阿克倫再一次掀起學習漢語、瞭解中國文化的新高潮。
