A letter from Asian Services In Action

We learned late today that President Obama plans to zero out a key spending item in his proposed budget. The Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities (SDFSC) funding is a long-standing program that has helped hundreds of immigrant and refugee youth in our International Community Empowerment Project (ICEP). The youth that come to ICEP are from inner-cities, they are low-income, and newly arriving. Majority of the participants have struggled academically because of language and cultural barriers. Through the one- on-one support and guidance, participants have thrived and gone on to succeed academically. More importantly, these young people have developed strong self-esteem and have made tremendous progress toward reaching their personal goals in life. Every year, we have ICEP past participants come visit our office to share where they are in life today. We are extremely proud of these youth.
ICEP is ASIA’s longest standing program, and we ask for your support to let President Obama know the importance of keeping the SDFSC funding intact in his budget. Below is information on how you can send a fax blast to your legislators. Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) is a national advocacy groups that works on behalf of nonprofit organizations across the country in the area of alcohol, tobacco, and drug prevention.
We thank you in advance for your support.
