Akron, Ohio – Asian Services In
Action will host its second annual An Afternoon in Asia, an Asian
cultural event on Saturday, August 16, noon to 4 pm at the Main
Akron-Summit County Public Library.
The event will feature cultural performances and
demonstrations from countries spanning the Asian continent and the
Pacific Ocean.Highlights include performances by the Filipino, Mon and
Karen communities of Akron, calligraphy demonstration, and arts and
crafts activities for children. Blood pressure and cholesterol
screenings as well as valuable health education materials will be
provided free of charge.
“The goal of An Afternoon in Asia is to bring the
broader Akron community together for a day of celebration and cultural
exchange. It is also an opportunity to provide recognition to the
rich, diverse cultures which exist in the City of Akron,” said Michael
Byun, ASIA’s Acting Executive Director.
Last year the event drew over 300 people. The event is
made possible by the generous support of the lead sponsors, John S.
and James L. Knight Foundation through the American Dream Fund and
Summa Health System. Other sponsors include Omnova Solutions and
National City Bank. A special thank you goes to the Akron-Summit
County Public Library for providing the venue for this event.
Admission is free and free parking is available.
