亞洲行動協會舉辦25周年慶祝活動

 

 
 
   時間眞快,亞洲行動協會迎來了25周年慶祝活動,克利夫蘭新市長Justin M. Bibb前來祝賀,來自Akron 政府官員,社團贊助者和社區嘉賓300多人,還有上任協會主席Michael Byun 從Seattle Washington特地趕來參加慶祝活動。當晩主持活動的是現任主席Elaine Tso,慶祝活動從回顧影片到頒奬盛典,大家感動感謝克利夫蘭Akron 有這么一個積極服務社區居民的協會。


   協會創始人之一的May Chen 表示:亞洲服務機構從開始誕生,經歷了難以忘懷的痛苦經歷。是否這個機構能夠成長和壯大,在這個區域從內到外都有很多懷疑。
   有一個問題引起共鳴的就是:我們是誰?
   在美國的亞洲人,因爲人數不夠多,從統計數據來看是沒有意義的數據人種類。 所以我們亞洲人在美國歷史上是被忽略的。
   亞洲人被美國主流社會,甚至被在美國成功的亞洲人廣泛認爲是“模範少數人種”。 亞洲人跟主流社會的人一樣容易生病。但是對於醫療的機會存在障礙。
   在剛開始建立亞洲服務機構(ASIA)的時候,跟主流社會倡導在公共醫療防禦方面要包括亞洲人。 他們的大多數反應是:亞洲人有障礙嗎?他們在哪里? 或者反應沉默。沉默的意思就是對亞洲人無所謂,沒有同情,小看和歧視。 對於這些反應,亞洲服務機構(ASIA)沒有屈服。 堅持和給主流社會機會,讓他們瞭解我們,讓他們知道我們都需要相互理解。
   今年, 我們慶祝了我們的25周年紀念日(由於病毒推遲,其實是27周年)。 我們現在有兩個地點的服務和兩個醫療診所。 一個在阿克隆(Akro你)一個在克利夫蘭 (Cleveland. )去年我們服務過5萬8千人。

Here are my thoughts about ASIA
   ASIA experienced unforgettable labor pains from its birthing. There was much skepticism from inside and outside the community whether this agency would be full term, normal and thriving.
   One question that resonated was that no one knows who we are. Asians in America are not recognized as a statistically significant data category. They are invisible and missing in history.
   Compounding ASIA's efforts is the pervasive “model minority” myth held by the mainstream and also tenaciously held by our own Asians who have realized their American dreams. Asians are equally vulnerable to the diseases mainstream members have. But access and care can be barriers
   At the beginning of ASIA's advocacy work with mainstream providers for inclusion in public health prevention programs, their response typically was, “are they having problems and where are they?” Or silence that resonates and translates to indifference and apathy, discounting and demoralizing. ASIA did not succumb to these responses but persevered and gave providers the benefit of the doubt that we all need to learn more from each other and work together.
   This year we celebrate our 25 Anniversary that is actually 27th due to Covid delay. We now have two sites and two medical clinics in NE Ohio, one in Akron and one in Cleveland.
   Last year we served over 58,000 clients and helped improve the quality of life for Asian Americans, young and old. Over the years all the blood, sweat and tears were well worth it.

   The future of ASIA will be about more partnership with our coalition of alliances. We cannot support the newly arrived immigrant and refugee community without the help of the entire village. We are currently seeing the consequences of closing America's doors to the international community --- significant workforce shortages. As the United States starts to welcome the international community again, ASIA will be there to invest in them and be a community catalyst.
   Asin成立25周年,協會離不開全體工作人員的共同攜手同行,Asin也希望更多人捐出愛心捐出財力來主持和完善我們自己的社區。

　

　
Hsa Win 發言
   我第一次遇到Hsa Win 是在2018年 亞洲服務機構(ASIA)的捐款晩會上。 他是舞蹈表演者中的一個。他的舞蹈動作優美、 有致。 他的表演充分表明他對自己文化遺産的由衷熱愛。我還注意到他的服裝很神奇-集優美的藝術和精美做工于一體。 後來發現這是他自己親手製作的。 在這個捐款晩會上, 我也注意到他的令人愉快和合群的個性,讓他很容易跟第一次遇到的人相處愉快。 在我跟年輕的移民和難民相處30年的經歷中,很少遇到像他這樣有自信,有社交能力和嚴格要求自己的年輕人。在這短暫的相遇,我感覺到他有潜在的領導能力。 我猜對了。 從那以後, 我親眼見證他在他自己和ASIA團體里的積極參與。
   在過去難民營的生活對於Hsa Win 是難以想象的艱難。 他和他的媽媽、妹妹經歷了非常貧窮的生活條件。 他們在玉米和大米田里工作,來支撑他們的生活。 當他和家人到達美國,他決定要從他們平窮的生活中解脫出來。 他尋找各種美國提供的機會,來實現他的美國夢想。他是他家里第一個從高中畢業,第一個讀大學的人。
   他很珍惜和熱愛他的文化遺産,他致力于保護和與分享他的遺産來改善種族之間的關係。在他的社區里,他組織了一個年輕人的舞蹈團隊。
   他想通過舞蹈表演來讓別的種族瞭解他們的文化,也幫助他們自己確認自己的傳統文化。
   在病毒期間,他還幫助當地無盈利組織自製口罩來獲得捐款。 他的激進還將他帶到華盛頓特區, 去抗議軍事接管緬甸。 他還參加了“黑人生命重要” 的遊行。 他眞的很關心關於社會公平的問題。
   毫無質疑,他已經像詩人Nicholas Dungan 所説的一樣: 你不需要政治的權利來成爲一個領導者, 你需要個性的力量成爲一個領導者。 這個個性的力量就是: 自我反省, 正直堅強和遠見。
   這是眞的很愉快和欣慰, 看到這個年輕人擁抱自己的,其它種族 和美國文化。 我堅信他會一直是做爲公民,做爲將來這個國家的領導人的寶貴財富。
