Currently, over 350,000 people have died
nationally from COVID19, and in Ohio alone over 9,000 people have
died. The U.S. The Bureau of Labor Statistics quantifies that there
are 10.7 million people without jobs or laid off from work. The
effects of this pandemic have brought dire consequences to each and
every one of us. As part of the Asian-American community in
Cleveland, we know that we are strong and united. As we now enter
the New Year, the pandemic is not going anywhere, and we must
continue to fight. Our non-profit organization,Xcel Future, was
created off this basis.
Our members are Clevelanders, and Xcel Future serves the
Cleveland community. Our current project is to help the homeless in
Cleveland. It has been hard for the homeless to receive aid as
resources are scarce, and homeless shelters have limited operations.
We are running a large scale winter clothing and blanket drive
across Cleveland and in various counties while following pandemic
protocols. Additionally, universities have also joined in to help.
The Chinese Student Associations from Case Western Reserve
University, Cleveland State University, and Ashland University are
also collecting donations next week. Furthermore, the Chinese
Student Scholar Association at The Cleveland Clinic has also joined
our cause. All donations will be going to The City Mission, a
homeless shelter in downtown Cleveland. We hope to alleviate the
pressures they face. We have included a poster for our project that
includes the locations, dates, and times of our drive, and encourage
you to join us. The Chinese-American Community is resilient and
spirited. We will continue to fight this pandemic together.
