COVID-19 Updates from Cleveland City Hall

Coronavirus Prevention & Response: Week in Review

Dear Residents,
As of Nov. 5, there are 6,808 confirmed cases and 152 fatalities attributed to coronavirus in the City of Cleveland. It is disappointing to see the number of COVID-19 cases in Cleveland again reach triple digits. There are things we know are effective in slowing the spread of the coronavirus and it is important we all do our part by washing hands frequently, maintaining social distance and wearing masks when you go out.
This week, we made several announcements including:
Nov. 5: I swore in Michiel Wackers as the Interim Director of the Department of Community Development. In his role, Wackers will be responsible for planning, administering and evaluating U.S. Housing and Urban Development funds, implementing programs designed to conserve and expand the housing stock and improving the quality of human services. Nov. 6: I swore in 35 cadets of the 146th Cleveland Police Academy Class to the Division of Police at Cleveland City Hall. Although the event was closed to the public to comply with social distancing and mass gathering regulations, family and friends joined the celebration via Facebook Live. Nov. 6: The City of Cleveland Department of Economic Development announced two programs to assist small businesses. The Emergency Working Capital Program will provide grants to businesses whose operations are specifically impacted by COVID-19. The Winter Restaurant Operations Support Grant is aimed at providing restaurants with resources to offer safe outdoor dining experiences through the winter. As a reminder, the City of Cleveland will begin its seasonal leaf pick-up program on Nov. 9, 2020. The program provides leaf pick-up in high leaf-generation areas, reducing the need for residents to manually collect leaves. View a map of the designated areas here. Last week, the Department of Public Utilities’ (DPU) announced that the moratorium on shut-offs and reconnections will be lifted beginning Dec. 1, 2020, at which time DPU will resume the regular process
Thank you and stay safe,

Frank G. Jackson, Mayor
City of Cleveland
