September 29, 2020 - The City of Cleveland's
Government and International Affairs ManagerAlex Lackey presented a
proclamationfrom MayorFrank Jackson honoring the 150th Anniversary
of Chinese migration to Cleveland to Jason Lin, president of the
Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Society for the Chinese community at
the 2nd annual Global Cleveland Sister Cities Conference. Mr. Lin
thanked the City of Cleveland, City Council, Global Cleveland, and
the many sponsors for putting on the event. He talked about the
Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Society history of service to the
community and his own journey as a refugee from Vietnam and about
the need to continue to work together, give back and support
newcomers, immigrants, refugees and the younger generation to pursue
the American dream.
Today's Opening Reception hosted by the Cleveland Public Library
kicks off the 3-day virtual conference is free and open to the
public around the world withrepresentatives from 24 sistercitiesto
discuss their partnership’s goals, successes, and aspirations to
cross-pollinate ideas and forge connections.
The Opening Reception Keynote Speakers included Cleveland Public
Library Director, Mr. Felton Thomas,Ambassador of Ireland to the
United States, Honorable Daniel Mulhall,Cleveland City Council
President, Mr. Kevin Kelley,Cuyahoga County's Chief Economic
Development and Business Officer, Mr. Ted Carter,Cleveland Clinic
Director of Global Patient Services, Dr. Nizar Zein
Cleveland Foundation President, Mr. Ronn Richard,Consul General of
Mexico in Michigan and northern Ohio, Mr. Fernando González
Saiffe,Director-General Eric Huang, Taipei Economic and Cultural
Office in Chicago.
A proclamation was also presented for theMexican 100th Immigration
Anniversary to thePresident of the ComitéMexicano of Cleveland, Mr.
