Cuyahoga County Public Library teams up with local
schools to increase eBook access for students Shared goal to promote
digital learningParma, OH – April x, 2020 – Cuyahoga County Public
Library (CCPL) is collaborating with local schools to increase
access to eBooks and eAudiobooks for students by combining CCPL's
and schools' digital reading resources in a single app. Schools
participating in the collaboration include Beachwood City Schools,
Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools and Warrensville Heights City
School District. Additional schools may be added in the coming
weeks.
This school-library collaboration will provide students with safe
access to age-appropriate eBook titles through Sora, a student
reading app powered by OverDrive. Using Sora, students will be able
to borrow from their schools' eBook collections as well as from
CCPL's juvenile and young adult eBook titles. Sora also supports
teachers by providing education-specific tools like achievements,
exportable notes and reading progress to encourage individualized
learning.
"We are thrilled to collaborate with our local schools to increase
student access to eBook content," said CCPL Executive Director Tracy
Strobel. "As students and parents adjust to the challenge of
learning from home we happy to do what we can to help ease that
burden."
"We are thrilled about this announcement," said Beachwood City
Schools librarian Angela Maxwell. "It comes at a perfect time, as we
are looking for ways to enrich our collection while students and
teachers are digitally reading at home. We are so thankful for the
support of our public library partners."
The Sora app was named one of TIME’s Best Inventions 2019 and is
available for Beachwood City Schools, Chagrin Falls Exempted Village
Schools and Warrensville Heights City School District students to
download through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, and on
Chromebooks that support the Google Play Store. It is also available
for use in web browsers at https://soraapp.com on any computer.
Cuyahoga County residents can also borrow and read CCPL's complete
eBook and eAudiobook collection with a valid library card through
the award-winning Libby app. CCPL's collection includes
best-sellers, new releases and a selection of always-available
eAudiobooks. Readers of all ages can select from virtually every
