A sunny weekend with the Great Lakes Chinese Golf Association

This past weekend I had the honor and pleasure to join with the Great Lakes Chinese Golf Association as a member. While I am not ethnically Chinese I was very happy to be extended an opportunity to join the group in the outing at Boulder Creek golf club. And what a great outing it was. Not only was the weather bright and sunny but the whole atmosphere was positive and upbeat. Everyone was very friendly and there was a wholesome attitude towards the tournament’s competition. I don’t think anyone really felt left out as there were representatives from Canada, Pittsburgh, Ohio area and Detroit. I heard that some even came from as far way as Los Angeles. I immediately felt it was going to be an enjoyable time when I saw that a family had entered and parents were playing with their younger children. Not only did we get to play with some of our peers but we also saw some great young talent. I was deeply impressed by a younger boy only about age 13 and how well he presented himself.
After Saturday’s golf play on the course, The Pittsburgh team members met up for a nice dinner at a local Chinese restaurant. Over some very tasty dishes we had some time for continued discussion of the day’s play. We had some of the usual golf banter, such as, who thought they had the longest drive, who was putting particularly well, etc. But there was also quite a bit of conversation from the group about the growth and future of the association. The group took time to recognize the support and efforts of some of the Pittsburgh association leadership, including Bob Zhang and Mike Lin (among others). We all raised a glass in support of the future of the association.
Heading back to Pittsburgh from the weekend of golf play I had time to reflect a bit on the weekend and my time spent with those I got to meet and know better. I am thankful for the opportunity to have just been a part of the event. And being a part of the event I got the privilege to see what an exciting and enjoyable group this is as it exists in the greater Chinese community. I am encouraged about the future growth of the Great Lakes Chinese Golf Association and very pleased to see this healthy outdoor family oriented type of activity take root and flourish. I returned home on Sunday feeling nothing but enthusiasm for the bright future of the association.
