Cleveland Zoo's 2nd Asian Lantern Festival and Return of the Dragon

By Wayne Wong

The Asian Lantern Festival returned to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo for the 2nd year, and the OCA Cleveland Dragon Dance returned to perform at the auspicious occasion as well. The lantern festival includes over 40 all-new larger than life, colorful lantern displays, many that are motorized. Included are also live performances, Asian-themed food, and a new interactive zone. The lantern displays are distributed through the Zoo and while stunning at any time, the exhibits are especially magical and beautiful after the sun goes down and they light up evening. The Asian Lantern Festival continues on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through July 28 from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m.
To help celebrate the occasion, the Zoo brought in local performances including the OCA Greater Cleveland Dragon Dance that did two performances and then paraded throughout the Zoo to the delight of the audience. Other local performers includes the Sho-Jo-Ji Japanese Dancers. The performances as well as the majestic displays have been a great way to highlight Asian culture and diversity. See them before they are gone!
