Cleveland, OH – When the volunteer founders of
the Cleveland Asian Festival created the event ten years ago their
main goals were to showcase Asian culture and promote the AsiaTown
neighborhood of Cleveland. Now ten years later the Cleveland Asian
Festival has become an annual engine of economic growth for the
area.
While it was expected that the Cleveland Asian Festival (CAF) would
celebrate diversity and Asian culture in Northeast Ohio it would
have been hard to predict its impact on the resurgence of and growth
in Cleveland’s AsiaTown community.
Johnny Wu, one of three CAF founders, says “It has been an honor to
serve and help this festival grow. The festival’s reach goes beyond
the weekend as many attendees continue to visit AsiaTown throughout
the year.”
Before the Cleveland Asian Festival, what has now become the popular
and vibrant AsiaTown was unknown to most outside the area. But with
tens of thousands being introduced to AsiaTown through the Cleveland
Asian Festival each year the neighborhood has been a popular
destination year-round.
The Cleveland Asian Festival has been an economic engine for
AsiaTown with 35,000 to 50,000 attendees each year and millions
spent in the neighborhood.
Look for a special Cleveland Asian Festival this year as the 10-year
anniversary is celebrated. Johnny Wu adds, “CAF is now a decade in
the making. We are very proud and excited.”
