Dear Readers
I decided to run for Congress in part because I was- and remain-
deeply disturbed by forces in the Trump Administration and in
Congress who continue to deny the growing threat that changing
climate poses to our nation and the world. Record breaking weather
events, ranging from 4 feet of rain in one day in Houston to
devastating droughts in Syria and South Africa, have not been enough
to get Washington to change.
Scott Pruitt was already the wrong choice to lead the Environmental
Protection Agency when he claimed that, "I think that measuring with
precision human activity on the climate is something very
challenging to do and there's tremendous disagreement about the
degree of impact." Later, he would clarify to say he believed global
warming might even be beneficial, saying, "We know humans have most
flourished during times of warming trends. There are assumptions
made that because the climate is warming that necessarily is a bad
thing."
This scientific ignorance is greatly imperiling our future. It's bad
enough Pruitt is muzzling scientists at the EPA and rolling back the
progress we have made on such policies like making our cars more
fuel efficient. Now we have seen scandal after scandal showing
Pruitt abusing taxpayer money and trust.
The New York Times exposed that Pruitt rented his Washington condo
from an energy lobbyist's wife for $50 a night and then approved a
pipeline project for the lobbyist's client.
According to Politico and CNBC, taxpayers have spent more than
$163,000 on Pruitt's first-class flights, charter flights and a ride
on a military jet. He even asked if the EPA could get him his own
private jet.
We need leaders in Washington who have the integrity to stand up for
science and will not abuse the public trust once in office. That is
why Scott Pruitt needs to go. Please donate $25, $50, $100, $250, or
$500 today if you want to see Congress finally start addressing
climate change and leave the planet in better shape for my son and
all our children.
Thank you so much for your help!
Best regards and Semper Fi,
Grant
