We welcome you to Cleveland, Ohio. I tell people all
over the world that Cleveland is the most important city on earth
for delivering education and enterprise to a globe of humanity for
130 years!
They then look at me dumbfounded, from all around the world and say
“huh! – how can you say this!”
It’s very simple and all I had to do is share just two realities:
The first traffic light on earth – East Ninth Street Cleveland,
Ohio, and the first commercial air traffic control tower was
established where? In Cleveland, Ohio. I didn’t need to say another
word. Do you understand? So you come here by luck, maybe by God,
maybe just because of the friendship between a professor and his
student, to a very important city that doesn’t speak just to America
– Cleveland speaks to the globe. Cleveland is so global, I can’t
tell you. I am a son of Cleveland, and I have worked to deliver
CLEVELAND KNOW-HOW and trendsetting enterprise in modern terms to a
globe of humanity in my generation – I am
still pioneering with Cleveland’s brand of American entrepreneurial
spirit...I even lived in China for twenty years pioneering since
1985 to build a new nation no different than my fathers! Except,
theyleft Romania and came to America 120 years ago to pioneer in
Cleveland to contribute to an evolving American economy and then
moved their success and freedom back home and into their old world!
Years ago, when your pioneering daughter of China, Anne Ying Pu,the
brilliant Publisher of the Erie Chinese Journal and President of
Global Chinese Service and I met to make our new dreams for China
and the worldc ome true, I told her, we are two pioneers – merging
our cultures to create success. Ying Pu became nervous and hit my
hand saying no no no! Pioneer translated into Chinese means
Revolutionary! I mentioned that Deng Xiaoping’s China Open Doer
Policy to the world, created while I was pioneering in China, made
him a global pioneer in the world and a revolutionary leader in
China. That great leader is the reason you sit here in Cleveland
today. You can thank America and Deng Xiaoping – China is the new
number two economy on EARTH and here we are in Cleveland’s Chinatown
meeting with leaders from CRRC manufacturing and Nottingham
University experts on sustainable manufacturing and global
engagement. Now imagine this! In 1903 when Henry Ford started Ford
Motors, Cleveland and its pioneers were already recognized as “the
leading automobile manufacturing city in the universe.” Key words
–The leading manufacturing city in the Universe!And Oh, Ford Motors
is now manufacturing cars in China!
Pu Ying! You bring up the subject of Rock & Roll? I love it! The
words “Rock & Roll” to define new music and the first Rock concert
on earth took place in Cleveland. Almost all of you are under 35
years old, right? Right! Cleveland is the Rock & Roll Capital of the
World. When you think about any cultural exchange, you think about
art, literature, MUSIC and FOOD, well that includes engineering,
science and medicine, you name it! In fact, what pushes all cultural
exchange is the businessman or woman. The dreamers, the
entrepreneurs, the ones who must grow the company to feed many
families. The one who creates the new economic enhancement trends
for the future to feed, protect and educate our Children.
When you think of Cleveland, you should think of a city that focused
45 years ago on yet another revolutionary, disruptive, global cross
cultural exchange that delivered a new world and vast borderless
prosperity you know today. In-deed, trillions of dollars born from
new consumer product manufacturing industries delivered new
expendable income ratios, over time, to every culture and human
demographic on earth. I was Blessed to be one of the two
businessmen, along with a brilliant Rock music radio format
programmer, who made it happen in Cleveland first. And then into the
world! We created the first commercially successful stereo FM radio
station in the world. We created and marketed Progressive Rock music
based on merging music cultures in the USA & Europe, and we branded
it in America and the world as “The Cultural Revolution”! We were
stereo FM radio broadcasting pioneers! And we change the world
forever. Here is how we sent this into the world through MTV
satellite broadcasting. We first merged FM radio technology with
television in 37 of America’s major markets using phone lines. We
start one radio station, and within two years, we had thirty-seven
radio station network linked with thirty-seven TV stations in every
major city in America. On Friday nights we delivered the first
successful national radio/TV simulcast known as “In Concert” which
drew 34 million viewers. Then the Cleveland, Ohio FM radio music
format and cultural revolution went to Europe, South America and
finally into Asia. That is why the $100 million dollar Rock & Roll
Hall of fame was built in the Rock & Roll Capital of the World –
CLEVELAND, OHIO!
Now if you think we were “crazy”, you’re right!
We were crazy to do the work because we believed that the future
belongs to the children. At the time we were children younger than
all of you in this room. You are not children, but to me you are
children - you are the future! Today in the world there are over 7
billion people on earth. For the first time in history, one-half of
them, 3.5 billion people, are under thirty years old. For the first
time in history, all of you under 35 represent the largest
population group in the world. And I will tell you this – the recent
education and enterprise gifts from Cleveland to the world in cross
cultural exchange communications, including national radio
&television simulcasts, were the foundation that delivered MTV
satellite communications and the technologies that established the
Internet --creating and adding to the new economies by moving
design, manufacturing and sales of consumer products into a new age,
evolving out of the industrial age, into the INFORMATION AGE.
For the first time in history, 3.5 billion young people around the
world, one half the world’s population, have money in their pockets
– expendable income ratios that have never ever existed before in
history – in the hands of our young people around the world, and in
your hands.
In the USA, our dedications throughout our history have been
cross-cultural exchange. As before, with previous number two
economies (England, Germany and Japan), America and China are not
building a USA/PRC family --TOGETHER WE ARE BUILDING A GLOBAL
FAMILY!!! Why? For the sake of our children, this is the message the
United States and China must deliver to the world. I look here at
Dr. Lin – a young man. I am seventy! (crowd gasps) Well, I eat
Chinese food! And the idea of this old “crazy” pioneer man standing
before you is to once again lead the young people to help America
and now China, the number two economy on earth, to market its
culture to people all around the world to promote understanding and
embrace China, its people and their culture with friendship and its
very important contributions to mankind over so many centuries. This
work is very important at this time in history and you are here in
the USA helping to make it happen. The oppression you lived under
for many centuries breeds something very beautiful in the people of
China. America does not look at the government of China, or Japan or
Germany or England – we, like you visitors here today, look into the
heart and soul of the people first!We are learning today that WE ARE
ALL THE SAME! The spirit of the people define the nation - the
spirit of the Chinese people like you, a large group visiting
Cleveland to complement the enhancement of friendship and
understanding between our two cultures. Throughout all of human
history it is friendship – growing friendship, always enhances the
world and the future of its children.
When I entered China in 1985, I had the chance to meet many
important people in the government – in Shanghai, in Guangzhou, in
Beijing, and in this process I begin to understand how the spirit of
the leader must represent the people to develop a prosperous future
at home and carry it into the world. Through the Romanian embassy I
met Deng Xiaoping and his reform program. Now you are the leaders of
this Chinese/American global experiment and must share it with the
world. The story of today’s event we will tell to the globe. No
longer is it word of mouth today - it is WORLD OF MOUTH! And the
story of our new friendships will travel throughout the world – by
sharing the story of your visit to Cleveland, the Rock & Roll
Capital of the World, with ITM and ECJ and your social media posts.
I call it The Never Ending Beginning of New Friendship like yin and
yang. The focus now is marketing China’s culture– like a technology
transfer between the countries. And this, God’s will, comes from the
American Spirit to share prosperity and freedom with the world. |
