Economic development in the AsiaTown
neighborhood is a key mission for the Cleveland Asian Festival (CAF),
the annual grassroots event that highlights AsiaTown while
celebrating diversity and Asian culture in Northeast Ohio.
CAF’s contribution to the resurgence of and growth in
Cleveland’s AsiaTown community will increase in 2017 with the CAF
Pop-Up Shop Competition. The CAF Pop-Up Shop Competition is for new,
independent, non-franchise, and non-food related businesses in the
start-up or early growth stage without a brick and mortar presence
in the metropolitan Cleveland, Ohio region.
Entrants will provide information on a proposed retail business
idea in AsiaTown. One criterion for selection is the possible
benefits of such a business to the AsiaTown neighborhood. One or two
winners will be chosen and they will receive a prime location booth
space along with a tent banner identifying the entrant’s business, a
half page ad in the 2017 Cleveland Asian Festival program booklet
and up to $1,000 reimbursement for business-related expenses
resulting from the selected entrant’s booth at the 2017 Cleveland
Asian Festival. Top 3 also will get 10 hours of free meeting time
each at Sail Loft and free 1:1 business coaching session through
Economic Community Development Institute of Cleveland.
Cleveland Asian Festival co-founder Johnny Wu states, “The exposure
to over 48,000 attendees of the Cleveland Asian Festival along with
the social media and program booklet outreach will go a long way in
helping a business idea become a successful reality in AsiaTown.”
5,000 copies of the Cleveland Asian Festival program guide will be
distributed prior to and during the event scheduled for May 20-21,
2017.
