   經歷整一年的選擇,最後兩黨選舉人分別是民主黨總統競選人希拉里·克林頓,共和黨競選人唐納德·特朗普。美國總統選舉共和黨大會,在克里夫蘭召開將會爲這個城市增添一份新的政治色彩,克利夫蘭將再次出現像騎士隊獲勝一樣的人潮,而這次美國總統選舉是與以往任何一屆選舉不同:如果民主黨當選是有史以來第一位女總統,共和黨當選是一位地産企業商人。也許金錢與政治的結合,使得富人可以通過他們的經濟資源來獲得特別優勢。
   隨着美國大選進程的不斷深入,美國總統選舉參選人從各種渠道接受捐款,競選組織籌款數額也與日俱增,這個成爲各方關注的焦點。美國聯邦選舉委員會最新公佈的數據顯示,截至今年6月27日,希拉里團隊的籌款已超過3億美元,特朗普團隊略顯遜色,也超過了6600萬美元。選戰“金錢化”日益突出,帶來的弊端愈發明顯,另外十分明顯這次亞洲人特別是華人參政人數明顯上昇。

   2016年11月6日星期二將公佈誰任美國第58屆總統,同時衆議院全部435個席位及參議院103個議席也會進行改選以産生美國第114屆國會。選舉人團將首先被選出,再由選舉人團于2016年12月17日選舉産生總統和副總統。美國實行總統制,總統選舉每4年舉行一次。美國總統選舉制度複雜,過程漫長。
    自美國建國後,從第一任總統華盛頓到現任總統歐巴馬,共有44任總統,但只有43人擔任過總統一職,原因是格羅弗·克利夫蘭(Grover Cleveland)先後做過兩任總統:他于1885年就職第22任總統,于1889年離任,但時隔4年後重回白宮,就職第24任總統。而俄州出任過8個美國總統,這次共和黨選擇克利夫蘭做主場將給克利夫蘭這個城市帶來經濟與文化的改變。中國人講風水,早在1884年,也在克利夫蘭當總統選舉主場,那年共和黨在克利夫蘭竟選戰勝了民主黨,共和黨獲勝並連續執政20年。時隔百年多,2016年美國總統選舉共和黨主場再次選擇克利夫蘭。

The decision to schedule the 41st RNC about a month earlier than previous editions was made in order to bypass a Federal Election Commission campaign spending restriction and to facilitate earlier campaigning in Ohio, a key battleground swing-state which every winning presidential candidate since 1964 has won. The Ohio winning streak for Republican presidential candidates stretches even further, when Abraham Lincoln triumphed over Democratic candidate George B. McClellan in 1860. Another reason behind the timing of the convention is the Rio summer Olympics (August 5 - 21), which is certain to draw the nation’s attention away from costly campaign advertisements.
The decision to select Cleveland as host, the first time since 1936, was made by the party after a keenly contested selection contest. The hosting job was an extremely highly sought after honor as aside from the prestige, the event is expected to generate revenues in excess of $400 million to the local economy. Other cities that were considered as host include Cincinnati, Columbus, Denver, Kansas City, Las Vegas and Phoenix.
Columbus and Phoenix were eliminated on April 2, 2014 after a preliminary review. Cincinnati and Las Vegas, meanwhile, withdrew on May 22, 2014.
