“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in getting up every time we do.” -Confucius
Confucius was a sage, a philosopher, a writer and a teacher, who lived in China more than 2 millennia ago. Through this quote, he expressed the importance of trying again after every failure.
This year, we are taking this quote into account as the city of Cleveland celebrates One World Day for the 69th year. One World Day celebrates the different cultures of Cleveland and takes place in the Cleveland Cultural Gardens, an array of gardens that stretch across Rockefeller Park. Through the years, these gardens have been the targets of hate crimes and vandalism. But each time the gardens were vandalized, the Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation and the various nationalities of Cleveland repaired them. Every time the gardens fell, they were repaired.
To mark the year before the centennial of the first Cultural Garden was built in 1916, this year’s festival will feature a parade that starts at the Chinese Garden next to Wade Lagoon. The Chinese Garden is included in the celebration agenda of the Federation for the first time since its establishment in 1985. In an effort to make this important day spectacular, the Chinese Cultural Garden Associate will finish repairs on the garden that have been in progress since the aftermath of Mitt Romney's campaign speech in Cleveland which targeted Chinese. However, funding this last stage of restoration, which includes pressure-hosing, concrete and paint repairs, will be costly. In addition, there will be activities including Dragon Dance, Performance of Chinese Dance, as well as Tree Planting to honor all teachers in the Chinese Garden.
We are asking everyone to help us reach the $12,500 needed to restore the Chinese Cultural Garden. All donations are tax-deductible and are made to the Chinese Cultural Garden Association, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization, an organization run by volunteers with passion to Chinese Culture without any funding supports. All donation will be used 100% towards repair and maintenance of the Chinese Garden. Any donation will be appreciated, and will help to make Chinese Garden a better place, and Cleveland a diverse and beautiful city to call home.
As Confucius said thousands of years ago, our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in getting up every time we do. This year, the people of Cleveland especially the Chinese Garden together with Chinese people will stand up, and we would love for you to be part of that.
Thank you very much in advance for your contribution and support!
Please make check out to The Chinese Cultural Garden Association, P. O. Box 770-637, Cleveland, Ohio 44107-1504.

Sincerely Yours

Anthony Yun-Tai Yen,
Chairman, Chinese Cultural Garden Association
