A Letter to the readers of Erie Chinese Journal

Barack Obama has a deep understanding of the Asian American community that began with his birth in Hawaii and his childhood years in Indonesia. As the President explained, “This is a community that helped to make me who I am today. It’s a community that helped make America the country that it is today.”
The President’s policies reflect his belief in embracing the diversity of America – and fostering opportunity for all Americans. He has appointed three Asian Americans to his Cabinet – the most in history. And he has more than doubled the number of Asian American federal court judges.
From day one of his Administration, President Obama has worked tirelessly to build a lasting economic recovery. When the President first took office, we were losing nearly 800,000 jobs a month, and we were on the verge of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. Under the President’s leadership, the economy has added 5.2 million private sector jobs over the past 31 months.
President Obama understands the priority that Asian Americans place on education. That’s why he’s worked to reform elementary and secondary schools, and make college more affordable and accessible.
The President recognizes that entrepreneurship is the backbone of the U.S. economy. He has enacted 18 small business tax cuts, which will benefit the 1.5 million Asian American businesses in this country. And last year, the federal government bought $12 billion of goods and services from Asian American businesses.
The Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”) will provide health insurance to 2 million Asian Americans, and protect millions of others who already have health insurance. No longer will an Asian American parent have to worry about being denied coverage because of a child’s pre-existing condition.
Governor Romney would return our country to the failed policies of the past. That’s why Asian American leaders like Congresswoman Judy Chu and former White House advisor Sonal Shah have been traveling around Ohio, talking about the President’s vision for the future.
Under President Obama’s leadership, we can strengthen the middle class and help ensure prosperity for our children and grandchildren for decades to come. Please support Barack Obama on November 6.
