AKRON - Asian Services In Action (ASIA) is pleased to
announce three grants from Akron Community Foundation, its Vernon L.
Odom Fund, and GAR Foundation to support its youth and early childhood
education programs.
Akron Community Foundation awarded $12,500 to ASIA’s READY (Readiness
through Expanded Acculturation Development of Immigrant/Refugee Youth)
Program, which helps immigrant and refugee parents maximize their
children’s developmental and academic success.
GAR Foundation and Akron Community Foundation’s Vernon L.
Odom Fund both awarded grants to ASIA’s International Community
Empowerment Project (ICEP), an after-school program for at-risk
immigrant and refugee children. GAR Foundation committed $40,000 to
ICEP’s general operating costs, while the Vernon L. Odom Fund donated
$1,000 for ICEP students to plan and organize their own International
Festival Day.
ASIA thanks these local foundations for their generous support of our
community’s youth and families.
Akron Community Foundation
Akron Community Foundation is a permanent endowment fund from donors
in the community. It distributes grants to local nonprofit
organizations which are actively working to improve the quality of
life in Greater Akron.
Vernon L. Odom Fund
The Vernon L. Odom Fund of Akron Community Foundation was established
to provide grant dollars for new and emerging nonprofit organizations
serving the minority population of Summit County.
GAR Foundation
GAR Foundation provides financial support to local organizations
involved in education, arts & culture, health & social services and
civic enhancement programs.
Asian Services In Action
Founded in 1995, Asian Services In Action’s mission is to empower
Asian American and Pacific Islanders in Northeastern Ohio to access
quality, culturally, and linguistically appropriate information and
