愛克隆動物園(Akron
Zoo)2005年在園方陸續增加動物的數量與種類、開設新展示館及舉辦各項活動的努力下,參觀人數達到22萬4000人,突破歷年來的紀錄,與2004年的15萬8000人相較,增加了41%。
園方行銷與來賓服務部門主任巴哈德(David Barnhardt)表示,在美洲虎、大蜥蜴及蝙蝠等新種動物的加入,使原先四百隻各式動物陣容,增加至七百隻動物,展覽規模不但是歷年之最,野生動物傳奇(Legends
of Wild)與卡莫多王國(Komodo Kingdom)兩館的開放展示,更吸引大批人潮前往參觀。
美國動物園及水族館協會公共事務部主任布蘭亭(Jane Ballentine)也表示,近年有許多動物園紛紛面臨參觀人數減少的問題,為招徠更多人潮,許多動物園開始以最新的科技重建展示方向與設備,如艾克隆動物園在野生動物傳奇展示中,即建立了一座25呎高的瀑布,並利用馬雅(Mayan)
建築與「古代傳說」來介紹一隻育有三隻幼虎的美洲虎,生動又活潑。其他還增設模擬月光的蝙蝠洞、可透過玻璃看企鵝游泳的水族館,去年10月更開設一座3萬5000平方呎的卡莫多王國為敎育中心,裏面有大蜥蜴、旱龜及鱷魚等熱帶爬蟲動物。 |

Take pictures at the Akron Zoo of animals, landscapes,
exhibits-anything you can snap a photo of - and enter your best ones!
A panel of judges will evaluate all entries for composition, neatness,
imaginative subject matter and overall photographic quality. Winning
photos will be displayed during September 2006.

Shutterbug Photo Contest Rules
DATES
Contest begins 4/1/06 and ends 8/18/06. All entries must be submitted
no later than 8/21/06 to:

ELIGIBILITY
Contest is open to all amateur photographers. Only photographs taken
at Akron Zoo are eligible for contest entry. Photographs must be taken
between 4/1/06 and 8/18/06. Registration form must be attached to the
back of each entry submitted. Entries without this registration form
will not be accepted.
PHOTOGRAPHS
Entry fee for the first photo submitted is $5. The entry fee for each
additional photo submitted by the same contestant is $3.
All photos must be taken by the entrant. Entries may be taken with any
brand camera. Photo may be color or black & white and must be
submitted unmounted. No computer enhanced or manipulated photos. All
entries must be 5?x 7?/B>. All entries must be on photographic quality
paper. All photos will become the property of Akron Zoo. For quality
film developing, take your film to Ritzman Pharmacy.
JUDGING
A panel of judges will evaluate the work and award the appropriate
prizes. The winning photos will be displayed on our website and
printed in an issue of our Zootales newsletter. The judges are
comprised of Ritzman Pharmacy and Akron Zoo employees, and one
independent professional photographer. Decision of the judges is
final. Winner will be notified by mail after August 31, 2006.
