Wu was recognized as a top
artist in performing dance in China. In 1986, she graduated from
Beijing Dance Academy with honors in Performing Dance. Ms. Wu’s talent
led her to the principal role in Quyuan, an epic dance drama
celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Dance Academy.
Upon graduation, Ms. Wu joined the prestigious Beijing
Youth Dance Troupe. She performed with the dance company at numerous
international and domestic art festivals. In addition, she won the
First Prize at Beijing Dance Competition in 1987, the Choreography
Award at Guangzhou International Dance Festival in 1988, the Special
Achievement Award and the Second Prize at Guangzhou Art Competition in
1989.
In the past decade, Ms. Wu worked in Japan as a
freelance dancer and a dance choreographer. She won the Second Prize
at the Foreign Art Competition held by Fuji Television. The renowned
fashion designer Iseey Miyake chose Ms. Wu as the only performer to
open the high profile Paris-Tokyo 1995 Fashion Show. In 1999 Ms. Wu
choreographed, produced and performed the epic “Dream Symphony”, - a
grand performance consisting of over 300 artists, reproducing the
palace music and dance of the Tang dynasty.
Ms. Wu taught Chinese dance in China, Japan and Houston
prior to establishing Oriental Star Dance School in Pittsburgh. With
the dance school, Ms. Wu intends to open a gateway to the artistic
world of Chinese dance. School’s faculty strives to enrich Pittsburgh
cultural environment and to improve the understanding of Chinese dance
art. It accepts girls from age 5 to adult at all levels, either for
