Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted announced new
user-friendly features to OhioMeansJobs.com, coordinated by
InnovateOhio, the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation and
the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. These new features
take a faster, streamlined approach to connect unemployed Ohioans
with jobs while helping employers identify new talent. The
enhancements are the next phase to improve customer experience with
OhioMeansJobs.com.
“This improved resource will help connect Ohioans with a new job, so
they are able to provide their families with the best opportunity
right here in Ohio,” said Governor DeWine.
“Ohio currently has the lowest unemployment rate in our state’s
history, and we are aggressively working to fill all of the new jobs
being created,” added Lt. Governor Jon Husted. “These features will
enhance the ability of employers to find talent in Ohio while
helping unemployed Ohioans find new or better-paying jobs.”

Lt. Governor Husted delivered keynote remarks on economic
development wins in the Dayton area and across the state to Dayton
Area Chamber of Commerce members at their annual Legislative Day in
Columbus.
Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted visited the Dayton
Correctional Institution, where they announced the launch of a new
initiative to give individuals leaving incarceration the opportunity
to play an important role in building the infrastructure necessary
for broadband expansion and 5G deployment across the state.
“Ohio is aggressively looking to expand our broadband
infrastructure," said Lt. Governor Husted. "We have free job
training programs that any Ohioan can take advantage of, yet we
still don’t have an adequate workforce to build it," he said. "I
commend the industry for their willingness to train individuals who
are leaving incarceration so that they can join the workforce and
lead lives of hope and purpose while building the infrastructure
that will expand broadband access to more Ohioans.”

Governor DeWine toured the Miracle Clubhouse as part of the
continuum of mental health care he is working to strengthen across
the state. In addition, Governor DeWine and Nationwide Foundation
President Chad Jester, in partnership with the Ohio Opioid Education
Alliance, unveiled the next round of "Beat the Stigma" public
service announcements, this time focusing on reducing stigma
associated with mental health treatment.
"This clubhouse, and others like it are places of hope, growth, and
opportunity," said Governor DeWine. "Such clubhouses fit into our
commitment to build up the mental health support system in our
state, so those who are in crisis, struggling, or recovering can get
the level of care they need, where and when they need it."
Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted announced the launch of a
statewide, online portal where Ohioans can inquire and apply to
become foster or adoptive parents.
“As a state, we must give our children the support they deserve to
succeed, and that support includes an adult to care for them,” said
Governor DeWine. “This new tool will streamline the foster parent
and adoption certification process making it more accessible than
ever.”
“With about 15,000 young people in our foster care system, there’s
no doubt Ohio needs more foster and adoptive families,” said Lt.
Governor Husted. “I know firsthand the impact this will have, as I
was in foster care and then adopted. Anything we can do to improve
this process is going to make a difference in the lives of a lot of
kids.”
Prospective caregivers can access the portal from Ohio’s
FosterandAdopt.ohio.gov website.
Governor DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine hosted the Garden Club of
America at the Ohio Governor's Residence for a tour of the Heritage
Garden.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is reminding Ohioans that,
no matter your experience level, it is important to focus on safety
anytime you’re on or near the water. Governor DeWine is emphasizing
the importance of safety by recognizing this week as National Safe
Boating Week.
“I urge everyone with plans to be on the water this summer to brush
up on boating safety skills in advance of boating season,” Governor
DeWine said. “Ohio’s rivers and lakes are great places for family
fun when boaters make safety a priority.”

Governor DeWine and the Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO) announced
that two more new videos aimed at reducing teen crashes have been
released for National Youth Traffic Safety Month in May. The release
coincides with what’s known as the “100 Deadliest Days” for teen
drivers, the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day when teen
driver-related fatalities historically spike.
“Drivers under age 24 are involved in 31% of all crashes in Ohio,
but only make up about 13% of licensed Ohio drivers,” said Governor
DeWine. “Most crashes can be prevented, which is why education is
key to help young people develop important critical driving skills.”
“These videos were designed to create a meaningful impact on young
people just beginning to learn to drive,” said Emily Davidson, OTSO
executive director. “Youth are influenced in different ways than
their parents or grandparents, and they expect messages to be
relatable and to merge seamlessly with their lives.”

Governor DeWine announced $3 million in funding for 44 local law
enforcement agencies to help their drug task forces enforce the
state’s drug laws and combat illegal drug activity. Grants from the
2023 Ohio Drug Law Enforcement Fund will support drug task forces
that impact 42 counties on issues of drug trafficking,
pharmaceutical diversion, and other organized criminal activity
associated with the drug trade.
“No one knows better than local law enforcement the effects that
drugs have on their own communities,” said Governor DeWine. “This
funding will support our local authorities as they work to take
drugs off the streets."
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds drivers to "Buckle Up" and
"Drive Sober" for Memorial Day. During the upcoming holiday weekend,
the Highway Patrol will be highly visible on Ohio’s roadways
promoting traffic safety. As motorists travel this weekend, troopers
are reminding drivers to use their safety belts and to be
responsible by designating a sober driver. The effort begins at
midnight on Friday, May 26 and continues through 11:59 p.m. on
Monday, May 29.
“Memorial Day weekend is always a fun time to be in Ohio, but if
you’re traveling our roadways, I urge you to make responsible
decisions,” said Governor DeWine. “Buckling up and driving sober are
essential to ensuring everyone on our roads is safe this holiday and
all summer.”
“Too many times our troopers see tragic loss of life on our roadways
due to irresponsible decisions,” said Colonel Charles A. Jones.
“Before heading out, make a plan, designate a sober driver and
buckle up.”
You can help contribute to a safer Ohio by calling #677 to report
drug activity and dangerous or impaired driving.

Governor DeWine, First Lady Fran DeWine, and Lt. Governor Husted
honored Ohio’s fallen heroes and Gold Star Families with a
wreath-laying ceremony at the Ohio Veterans Plaza at the Statehouse
in honor of Memorial Day.
"We are truly blessed to live in a land of liberty and opportunity,"
said Governor DeWine, "but these blessings do not come to us without
cost. As we head into this holiday weekend, we remember our
patriots, and we think about what Memorial Day is truly about —the
men and women of the U.S. military who died securing our freedoms."
