UCA會長寄語:馬丁·路德·金紀念日的紀念與思考

今天,我們慶祝一個激勵了千百萬美國人的生命。
今天,我們重申,我們將繼續努力,實現金博士的夢想:構建一個平等和公平的美國,儘管我們的社會依然有着分歧和差距。今天,我們重申我們的誓言,那就是要建立一個眞正包容和多元的民主國家,這是美國的根本基礎!
我們正生活在一場有關美國未來的大辯論中;我們正生活在一個以與中國的新冷戰爲標誌的時代;我們正生活在充滿疫情和對亞裔美國人不信任甚至仇視的年代里。美國華裔必須參與到這場辯論中來,必須用我們的經驗和觀點來幫助塑造這個國家的未來。這就是UCA的意義與信念:我們相信美國的共同價値觀和我們休戚與共的共同命運;我們反對政治極端主義、種族主義和自以爲是對眞理有壟斷權的主張;我們渴望將所有美國人團結在一起,而不是分裂他們,就像50多年前金博士所做的那樣。我們必須按照我們的信念和信仰而行事。
這才是慶祝這個節日的好的方式。這也是UCA自成立以來一直在做的事情:服務、引導和激勵我們的社區,爲包括華人在內所有美國人的福祉去服務。

Reflections on Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Today we celebrate a life that is the inspiration for millions of
Americans. Today, we reaffirm that we will continue the work to
realize Dr. King’s dream of one equal and fair America, despite our
differences and disparities. Today, we renew our pledge to build a
truly inclusive and pluralistic democracy that is the very
foundation of America!
At a time of great debate about the future of America, in an era
marked by an emerging new Cold War with China, lingering pandemic,
and anti-Asian hate and mistrust of Chinese and Asian Americans,
Chinese Americans must become part of this debate and must help
shape the future of this country with our experience and our
perspective. This is what UCA is about: we believe in the common
values and shared destiny of America; we refute the political
extremism, racism, and self-righteous claim on the monopoly of
truth; and we aspire to bring all Americans together, not divide
them, just as Dr. King did more than 50 years ago. We will act
according to our belief and faith.
That is the right way to celebrate this holiday. And that is also
what UCA has been doing since its inception: to serve, lead and
inspire our communities, for the wellbeing of all Americans.
