Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman at The City Club of Cleveland

CLEVELAND, OH-Michael Coleman, serving his second
term as mayor of Columbus, will speak about his run for the Democratic
nomination for Ohio governor at noon on Wednesday, December 7, 2005,
at The City Club of Cleveland.
Coleman began his career in public office in 1992, when
he was appointed to the Columbus City Council. He served as City
Council president from 1997 until his election to mayor in 1999.
Coleman has made public safety and reinvigorating the city's
established neighborhoods priorities during his tenure in office.
Working with business and community leaders, he is developing new
housing in the city's downtown and growing neighborhoods. His Columbus
Urban Growth Corporation, a partner in driving public-private
development, has attracted new business to locate in economically
challenged areas of the city.
Coleman also is committed to education. He is
constructing new public school facilities, he led the collaboration of
Ohio State University and downtown landowners to redevelop a closed
store into a mixed educational and residential complex, and he started
Cap City Kids, which provides children after-school recreational and
educational opportunities.
Coleman was raised in Toledo and graduated from the
University of Cincinnati in 1977. He earned his law degree from the
University of Dayton Law School in 1980.
The City Club has invited the major possible
candidates for Ohio governor to speak. Treasurer Kenneth Blackwell,
Brian Flannery, State Auditor Betty Montgomery, Attorney General Jim
Petro, Jerry Springer, and Congressman Ted Strickland have already
spoken.
Tickets for this City Club Special Forum are $15
