Mayor Bibb names Midori Lebrón
to CMSD Board of Education

Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023 – Cleveland –
Today, Mayor Justin M. Bibb announced the appointment of Midori
Lebrón to the Board of Education for the Cleveland Metropolitan
School District (CMSD). A 35-year Cleveland resident,Lebrón
currently serves as Director of First Year and Exploratory Advising
at Cleveland State University and was named to the “Top 100 Latinos
Cleveland Must Know”list for 2023.
“I sought this position because I believe in the transformative
power of public education,”Lebrón said. “Every CMSD student deserves
access to an education that not only prepares them academically but
also equips them with essential life skills.” Lebrón was sworn in by
Mayor Bibb this afternoon to an unexpired term ending June 30, 2025.
Following this appointment there is one vacancy on the nine-member
board, which is expected to be filled soon.
“I am excited to see how the CMSD board is taking shape and
MidoriLebrón is a fantastic addition,” said Mayor Bibb. “Her
commitment to advocating for scholars and supporting educators is
clear. I look forward to continuing to work closely with the board
and the CEO to move CMSD forward in the years to come.”
Lebrón holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Anthropology from
Baldwin Wallace University, a Master’s in College Student Personnel
from Bowling Green State University, and a Master’s in Sociology
from Cleveland State University. Additionally, she is currently in
her first year as a doctoral student at Kent State University,
pursuing an EdD in Interprofessional Leadership with a
specialization in Leadership in Education.
“It is a privilege to be a part of someone’s educational
journey,”Lebrón said. “When I work with students, I think about the
educators and mentors who believed in me and I am blessed to be able
to pay that forward, both in my career and through my board
service.”
The CMSD Board of Education serves as the governing body of the
school district and is tasked with setting policy, approving budget,
establishing goals and accountability standards, promoting parent,
family and community involvement, and appointing the CEO with the
Mayor’s concurrence. All board members serve four-year terms. An
eleven-member panel nominates candidates for each Board vacancy to
the Mayor, who makes the final appointment. |
