Cleveland earns top score for fifth year
in a row on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2022 Municipal Equality
Index Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022 — Cleveland — Mayor Justin M. Bibb
announced today the City of Cleveland earned 100, the highest score
achievable, on the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) 2022 Municipal
Equality Index.
HRC (America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve
lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality) releases an
annual Municipal Equality Index that reflects the hard work, or lack
thereof, on municipal equality from cities across the country.
The MEI score examines and reflects how inclusive municipal laws,
policies and services are of LGBTQ+ individuals who live and work
there. HRC rates cities based upon non-discrimination laws, the
municipality as an employer, municipal services, law enforcement and
leadership on LGBTQ+ equality.
This is the fifth year in a row the City of Cleveland has achieved
a Municipal Equality Index (MEI) score of 100.
"I am proud that Cleveland has earned a perfect score on the HRC
2022 Municipal Equality Index," Mayor Bibb said. "My administration
will continue to collaborate with the LGBTQ+ community to make real
change in our city and create the Cleveland we know we can be — a
welcoming, inclusive and diverse place where all people can succee |
