Author and Filmmaker Abigail Hing Wen Book Signing & Reception
By Wayne Wong

OCA Greater Cleveland (OCAGC) along with Asian American Coalition of Ohio (AACO) hosted a reception, discussion, and book signing with author and filmmaker Abigail Hing Wen on October 25. Abigail is a New York Times Best Selling Author, woman-in-tech leader specializing in artificial intelligence, a filmmaker as well as a wife and mother of two. Part of her book tour, Abigail’s return to Cleveland is special as she has deep roots in the region having grown up in Solon, Ohio with her family. Her parents were very active in OCAGC with father Ray having served as past president and mother Barbara as a VP.
The event was attended by old friends from school and church as well as new fans of her current literary work. Abigail penned the New York Times best-selling novel, Loveboat, Taipei, a Barnes and Noble YA Book Club Pick which follows 18-year-old Ever Wong from Ohio to Taipei. She then followed-up with her companion novel, Loveboat Reunion, that follows girl-in-tech Sophie Ha and the heir to a tech empire, Xavier Yeh, as they team up to take control of their own lives.
In her current career as author and filmmaker, Abigail is able to draw from her amazingly broad experience as a lawyer, expert in artificial intelligence, business executive, family woman, and her experiences as an Asian American.
Abigail is executive producing the book-to-film adaptation with Lionsgate and ACE Entertainment, creators of the Netflix franchise, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. She and her work have been profiled in Entertainment Weekly, The Hollywood Reporter, Forbes, Fortune, Cosmopolitan, Seventeen, NBCNews, and many more.
During the event, Abigail shared her journey and touched on her Asian heritage, her northeast Ohio roots, her inspirations, her varied career path, her research trips to Taiwan for her books, her filmmaking experience, along with a glimpse of her future books and films. The success of the Loveboat books has led to a host of other projects – and the NE Ohio community can’t wait!
Most anticipated is the film premiere for Loveboat, Taipei. With her law degree and experience as a business executive, Abigail’s involvement in the film is unique for an author in that she also serves as Executive Producer.
