Mayor Frank G. Jackson's Week in Review

Dear Clevelanders,
I invite you to attend my Mayoral Portrait Unveiling Ceremony on Wednesday, Dec. 22 from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the Cleveland City Hall Rotunda. The ceremony will be followed by a reception. If you are unable to attend the in-person ceremony, you can watch the live broadcast on the City of Cleveland Facebook page and public access channel, TV20.
On Dec. 7, I hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Frederick Douglass Neighborhood Resource and Recreation Center (NRRC), along with Ward 1 Councilman Joe Jones, Public Works Director Michael Cox, Judge Charles L. Patton Jr. and President & CEO of Harvard Community Services Center Elaine Gohlstin. The new $15.3 million facility located at 15401 Miles Avenue offers numerous community recreational programs for residents of all ages, including for students at the new John F. Kennedy High School.
The City has also improved Frederick Douglass Park, the site on which the new NRRC now sits. It has always been my goal to make Cleveland a great city to live, work, play and do business, and facilities like the new Frederick Douglass NRRC are key to achieving that goal. Our NRRCs help connect youth, adults and seniors to vital resources such as center-based employment service, recreational programs, educational advancement opportunities and more. On Dec. 8, College Now of Greater Cleveland announced that my Chief of Education, Dr. Monyka S. Price, will be joining their organization later this month as Senior Director of Advising Programs and Services. Chief Price has played an instrumental role as a leader in my administration’s education efforts in the City of Cleveland, including the Cleveland Plan, PRE4CLE, the Cleveland Transformation Alliance, the Higher Education Compact and Say Yes Cleveland. She is a valued member of my administration and I congratulate her on her new role. I know she will continue making an impact in the world of education.
I also congratulate City of Cleveland Arts & Culture Coordinator Cornell Calhoun III on the selection of his urban TV pilot "Longwood" for the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France. Award winners will be announced on December 13.
I want to remind you that the COVID-19 pandemic is not over. This week, the City of Cleveland reported 1,694 new cases for Nov. 28 - Dec. 4, bringing the total to 50,964 coronavirus cases and 620 fatalities. View the full report here. To schedule an appointment, call the city’s COVID-19 Vaccine Call Center today at 216-664-2222.
Thank you and stay safe,

Frank G. Jackson
Mayor, City of Cleveland
