September is Library Card Sign Up Month

Cuyahoga County Public Library is offering fine forgiveness for K-12 students September 1-30 Parma, OH – August 31, 2021 – September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Cuyahoga County Public Library (CCPL) joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.
Through access to technology, media resources and educational programs, a CCPL card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams and passions.
During Library Card Sign-up Month, CCPL will offer one-time fine forgiveness to K-12 students at each of its 27 branch locations so they can start the school year fine-free. Students are also encouraged to enter a ALA-sponsored prize raffle for a chance to win a $100 Visa gift and an ALA Graphics The Child poster.
CCPL cardholders of all ages with old, beat-up library cards may visit their local branch to get a replacement free of charge anytime during September. The Library offers a variety of library card designs to choose from.

Since 1987, the ALA has held Library Card Sign-up Month each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the ALA and libraries work together in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card.
